Why Counseling? To Process

I love Lay's Potato Chips; in my home, we don't buy Lay's because their claim that "you can't eat just one" is certainly true.

Processing your emotions is like transforming raw potatoes into Lay’s Potato chips.

Things that are raw, or unprocessed, have endless opportunities for change because you can make them into anything. As I write this, I think of the scene from Forrest Gump when Bubba is listing out for Forrest all the ways to eat shrimp (note: the shrimp link has explicit content in the video).

One of the reasons Bubba was able to transform shrimp into 10,000 different dishes, because he saw others work with shrimp extensively and then he had also worked with shrimp extensively.

The same is true for you and your emotions: the more you work with your emotions, the more you will understand what they are and why you are emoting (verb of emotions).

Processing emotions changes the experience of emotions from a raw element to become usable for a specific purpose.

The potatoes that Lay’s makes into chips are now chips and are used for specific purposes like in sandwiches, snacks (please don’t judge me) and casseroles.

Ultimately, the emotions that we process in counseling make the emotions more usable, thus taking away the distress and overwhelm of the emoting experience.

PS: If you want more information about how to process your thoughts and emotions, you can check out my Blog post here.

Too Long/Didn’t Read: Lay’s transforms potatoes into chips. Counseling transforms emotions into actions; Emotions are intended to be used and when you don’t use your emotions, they can be overwhelming and cause life’s problems.
