• For some, the decision to come to counseling can be difficult. Much like going to the doctor when you have a sprained ankle before the sprained ankle turns into a torn ligament or another ailment, coming to counseling early on can make the turnaround time quicker. If your problem is affecting your sleep, diet, work performance, ability to have solid relationships, ability to play or relax, counseling may be a good option for you!

  • I am a Mandated Reporter (more information about Mandated Reporting here), which means that when I suspect that there is any form of abuse towards a protected population that I am legally required to break confidentiality to protect the identified person(s) from the identified risk.

Here are the times where I am legally required to report abuse:

Suspected or reported child abuse or neglect to California Department of Child Support Services.

Suspected or reported elder/dependent adult abuse or neglect to California Adult Protective Services.

Concrete report of plan and intent to kill one's self or when a person is Gravely Disabled to Law Enforcement.

Concrete report of plan and intent to kill or harm an identified person that comes from patient/client or family member to Law Enforcement

  • In the beginning, weekly counseling sessions are suggested to help you get where you want to go. I think it is a good idea to schedule the first 5 to 8 counseling sessions weekly to start momentum toward change. After we have momentum, we can talk about changing the frequency and/or duration of counseling sessions.

Depending on what you are hoping to accomplish and your availability, Grayson will work with you to meet your goals in a timely manner!

  • Only if you meet diagnostic criteria and ask me to do so.

If you request/need a Superbill then a diagnosis will be assigned.

  • I am not on any insurance panels (pre-approved for services) and do not accept insurance, but individual plans may cover (or not cover) specific services from me with documentation that I provide you.

The following questions are suggested when calling your insurance provider to find out about your coverage:

Does my plan cover services to out-of-network mental health providers? How can Grayson become an In-Network Provider?

Does my plan cover counseling services provided by a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor?

Grayson is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor #12135. Can I use my insurance to pay for or reimburse for his session fees?

Grayson uses Service Codes: 90834 and 90834-95 for individual counseling, 90847 and 90847-95 for couples counseling, 98968 for phone calls and 90887 for report creation. Does my plan reimburse for these codes?

What is the deductible I have to meet before coverage to an out-of-network provider benefits start?

How much will my plan reimburse me after my deductible has been met?

How many counseling sessions does my plan cover in a year? How many sessions do I have left?

How do I submit the receipt (or Superbill) that I have for my sessions in order to receive reimbursement?

What is the timeline for my claim? How fast/soon after sessions do I need to submit to make sure I get reimbursed?

  • You can pay for your counseling sessions using your Health Savings Account (HSA), debit card, credit card, check (payable to Dr. Matthew Jarvinen - Psychologist), or cash. No counseling services are offered until previous services are paid for in full. You can also sign up to have automatic payments made the same day as your session in your Secure Client Portal. This is by far the easiest and most popular payment method.

Alternative forms of payment (eg. Venmo, stock, pre-payment, Crypto) are not accepted at this time. It is something I am actively looking into for the future.

  • You can cancel your appointment at any time, but if you cancel without 48 hours notice, you will be charged your full fee for the appointment canceled. If you need to cancel, you can call (480-234-8363) or email Grayson directly (Grayson@GraysonWallen.com).

  • Sorry, Grayson does not accept Medicare or Medi-Cal at this time. If you would like to use coverage, you can look on Psychology Today's website, click on "Find A Therapist," and enter your coverage information. There will then be a list of preferred providers who accept your preferred coverage.

  • I am open to talking with you and your partner about what counseling could look like. If someone does not want to come to counseling, they are not required but are welcome to join. If you are in a couples counseling relationship with me and one person decides that they are not coming, I will not hold the session without them. Sometimes I will schedule an intentionally individual session with couples, where we meet for a 1 on 1 session that is discussed beforehand and purposeful to the couple as a unit’s treatment.

  • Meeting online with Telehealth is a very convenient way to do counseling. One of the best things about Telehealth is that it allows you to be in your space that you want to be in. Also, instead of sitting in traffic, rushing to an office after work or squeezing a session in, you can be in your own home for our meeting.

With this in mind, your privacy is very important to me, so rest assured that I will be in my home office without any interruptions. If you have any questions about the process of meeting with me online or would like more details of what meeting online is like, please contact me directly!
