3 Ways to Develop Health Amid Toxicity (part 1)
A few weeks ago the Oxford Dictionary identified that “toxic” is the best word to summarize 2018. With a difficult year behind us, what lies ahead and how do we thrive?
For the next 3 weeks, I am going to share three ways to develop physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and vocational health amid toxicity.
Practice strong self-care routines
Self-care is the daily and routine practice that decreases stress and enhances wellbeing. Some parts of self-care are easy to identify like if you are eating healthy foods, sleeping regular amounts of time and exercising, but there are many more activities that have an influence on our mental health and overall wellbeing.
Without self-care you can experience burnout, decreased ability to cope with daily stressors or even symptoms of various mental illnesses. The practice of self-care produces greater resiliency because you are intentionally and routinely depositing into your emotional bank account. If there are sufficient funds in your emotional bank account, emotional expenses like difficult commitments, commuting traffic and vocational stress do not bounce as forms of stress, burnout and decreased satisfaction in life.
If you took 10 minutes a day and did something for yourself so that you had emotional currency to cash all the demands placed on you, you can prevent burn out amid toxicity.
